10th Annual
Spring Bear Pow-wow

Saturday, May 17, 2003

Douglas County Fairgrounds
Castle Rock, Colorado

The 10th Annual Spring Bear Pow-wow was an old-style gathering. Just fun and fellowship with everybody welcome.

The main sessions saw about 45 dancers, and over 400 total visitors during the day. Masters of Ceremonies Bernard Cottonwood and Junior Conquering Bear kept things lively with lots of intertribals dancing, specials, and social dances.

Denver All Nations Singers led the singing for the day. joined by several other drums. Other drums included: Black Tongue Dakota, Many Rivers, and Tiwahe. Thanks for singing those good songs. The singing was spirited and kept the dancers on their feet. Good songs and good feelings. Yeah!

Internationally know recording artist Calvin Standing Bear provided entertainment during the dinner hour. His flute music and songs were a special gift. Calvin also had his CD's available for purchase.

Admission was free to all visitors. A free printed program gave information about the head staff, tips for pow-wow enjoyment, and other great information. Our "Not-a-raffle" drawing offered chances at several lovely prizes, including a hand-made ladies dance shawl, several works of art donated by our vendors, two beautiful quilts, and a unique dnace stick, and more.

Alisa Limvere headed up the kitchen again this year. The menu included Brenda Aldrich's frybread, Indian tacos, green chili, hot dogs, and nachos. Mmmmmmm!

Spring Bear 2003 had 20 craft and supply vendors, including alterNative Voices, Orr's Outpost, Betty & Joe Upshaw, Four Courners Flutes, JRR Crafts, Connie Garcia, Mable Teller, Monica Rains, Eva Groves, Priscilla Saavedra, and others offered visitors a chance to take home something really special.
