Spring Bear Pow-wow was an old-style gathering. Just fun and fellowship with everybody welcome. The main sessions saw nearly 75 dancers, and over 500 total visitors during the day. MC Junior Conquering Bear kept the dance sessions moving with lots of intertribals dancing, specials, and social dances. Denver Indian Singers led the singing for the day, joined by Black Tongue Dakota (Kenny Little), Wo Lakota, and others. The singing was spirited and kept the dancers on their feet. Good songs and good feelings. Yeah! Admission was free to all visitors. A free printed program gave information about the head staff, tips for pow-wow enjoyment, and other great information. Our "Not-a-raffle" drawing offered chances at several lovely prizes, including a hand-made wooden jewelry box, a custom-made silver watch-band, an original flute made by Ray Redfeather, and a unique woodturning entitled "Drum Heart #1". Alisa Limvere headed up the kitchen again this year. The menu included Brenda Aldrich's frybread, Indian tacos, green chili, hot dogs, and nachos. Mmmmmmm! Several craft and supply vendors, including Orr's Outpost, Bessie Sherwood, Betty & Joe Upshaw, Four Courners Flutes with Raymond Redfeather, alterNative Voices, JRR Crafts, Enchanted Accents, and others offered visitors a chance to take home something really special. |
