Spring Bear Pow-wow was an old-style Northern get-together. Just fun and fellowship with everybody welcome. Gourd Dancing, led by John Clavel, with songs by Bob Iron and Pawnee Spotted Horse started the celebration. There were nearly 20 dancers in the circle, honoring our veterans. The Gourd Dancers returned for a second session during dinner. The main sessions saw over 60 dancers, and over 350 total visitors during the day. MC Tom Wind kept the dance sessions moving with lots of intertribals dancing, specials for each style to show off, and social dances. There was no entry fee this year. Visitors could buy commemorative buttons and t-shirts. A free printed program gave information about the head staff, tips for pow-wow enjoyment, and other great information. Our "Not-a-raffle" drawing offered chances at several lovely prizes, including a star-quilt, beaded loose-feather fan, and a custom woodturning by the committee chair. Alisa Limvere headed up the kitchen again this year. The menu included Brenda Aldrich's frybread, Indian tacos, green chili, hot dogs, and nachos. Mmmmmmm! Several craft and supply vendors, including Orr's Outpost, Bessie Sherwood, White Buffalo Image, alterNative Voices and others offered visitors a chance to take home something really special. |
