Spring Bear Pow-wow was an old-style Northern get-together. Just fun and fellowship with everybody welcome. There were over 50 dancers, and just over 150 total visitors during the day. The $3 entry included entrance, a meal, a commemorative button, and a printed program. We spent the day with lots of intertribals dancing, specials for each style to show off, and social dances. There was a memorial for Steve Dermer, who left us in October 1998. All men fancy dancers were asked to come out and dance to contest-style songs by each drum. This was followed by a memorial song by Denver Singers, and blanket dance for Steve's wife and children. Brenda Aldrich cooked frybread for dancers and visitors. Alisa Limvere headed up the rest of the kitchen, adding taco toppings to the frybread, hot dogs, and cold drinks. We had nine or ten vendors, including Orr's Outpost, Mabel Teller, Bessie Sherwood, JRR Crafts, White Buffalo Image, and others. |
